How to Renew Passport
The procedure for applying for a new passport and to renew the old passport is quite same. For renewal, you need to furnish the details of your expired or existing passport. It is entirely an online procedure except visiting the passport office for documents verification. The passport renewal form should be submitted online. Passport renewal can be divided into following three steps:
1. Registration at the Passport Seva Website
Visit the official passport seva portal and click on the New User, Register Now option. Create your user login id and password. Also, select your nearest regional passport office.
2. Fill up and submit the passport renewal form online.
Return to the site of passport seva. Login using the created password and user id. Select the option ‘Reissue of Passport’ at the section ‘Applying for’. Select the mode as Tatkal or Normal way. After selecting appropriate options, proceed further.
Fill up the form. You can fill it up offline and can upload it later. Enter all the details including your old passport number. Also, mention date and place of the issue and the expiration date. Submit your form online and view it at the submitted or saved applications option. Carefully review your passport renewal form to avoid any mistake.
3. Pay and Book an Appointment
After submission of passport renewal form, make online payment of renewal fees. At the same time, you will also be fixing an appointment with the local passport office. Just next to the option of View Saved/Submitted Applications, you will find option of ‘Pay and Schedule Appointment’.
Follow it and select online payment. You will see a list of all the regional passport offices near you. Select the passport seva kendra in your locality. Also, select the available time and date from the shown list. After proceeding further, click the Pay and book appointment option.
This will take you to the payment gateway. Complete the procedure of the online payment. You will be redirected to the main page after online payment. You will see an appointment confirmation here. Take a print out by clicking on the option ‘Print Application Receipt’.
While you visit the passport office, carry the print out of the application receipt. Also carry self-attested passport copy and original passport. If you have added the name of your spouse, carry your marriage certificate. The proof of address is also required in the form of latest electricity bill or water bill.
The passport officials may also ask for any additional documents. Hence, it is recommended to carry copies of your photo identity cards like voter id or aadhar card.
